dear curious hypochondriac
This is a difficult question to answer as there are many many different ways that medicine work. a Bronchodilator works on certain receptors in the lungs to dilate the bronchial airways. It also has an effect on the same type of receptors in the heart (that is why broncho dilators will open you chest but give you heart palpitations)
