Infection depends on: how often they have sex, which partner is positive - women are more susceptible to contracting the infection, the amount of virus present in the sexual secretions, and the immune strength of the negative partner. HIV transmission is therefore not guaranteed but will happen over time, normally the infected partner has high levels of HIV in their sexual secretions and infection happens quickly - but there are exception as in this case. for further information go to http://www.thebody.com/content/art14009.html

if she is on meds then the virus could be undetectable which very much decreases the chances of him contracting it. This is ofcourse not always the case and is by no means advisable.
