Hi Amy, I would say another GSD. they are dogs that normally get on well together and depending on the age of your old lady lab, would then say another female, especially if she is good natured and accepts other dogs easily. Do consider waiting till the old lady has gone to rainbow bridge tho''. Some old dogs are revitilized by the addition of a pup, but others just cant handle. it. When you have a pack that gets on well together, often the new addition can really cause upsets in the pack and it is better to work with what you already have. Remember that a new addition means that you will have a pup to take to puppy class, further training, another dog to walk etc and do thihnk carefully about whether or not you have time for this. Additionally, go to a PROFESSIONAL breeder, that is one that is registered with KUSA, preferably as an accredited breeder and do your homework carefully. this new dog could be with you for 8 - 15 years and you want to get the best possible. Have a look on the friendsofthedog website for info in the puppy section about chosing a new dog and also the article on Breeders which will give you good guidelines. Good luck, thanks Scotty
