Maintenance for Grandmother

Beste " Famile-reg kundige"

There are plenty of legal websites saying that a parent/grandparent may sue thier children for maintenance, should it be proven they need it and the children can afford it

Tough one, and sad, but if one looks at it this way - a parent is responsibile for children, the children had no choice to be born, and therefore are the products (usually) of parents decisions. So children, of any age, should no be responsible for the results of parents decisions.

In many cultures parents have loads of children precisely for the fact that their cultures allow for the elderly to be cared for by their children, so as insurance in old age these people have loads of children as their " old age insurance" . (one of the contributing factors to over-population and poverty)

Now imagine if every grandparent started suing children for maintenance, old people would be damn wealthy, and would benefit from having loads of children. Economies would collapse because the young working class would be paying their money to the old folk instead of ploughing it back into the economy to fuel growth. And yes, we would all be having as many children as possible to secure our future old age.

So, sadly, as far as I am aware, there is no way a grandparent or parent can sue children or grandchildren for maintenance. There may be extenuating circumstances in which it is possible, but none that I am aware of.

6 broers en susters en net my man betaal.
