Maine coon cat

Hi there,

I was wondering if this breed makes noises or if it possible if some do not. I have not had my boy cat that long (about 1.5 years) and in that time I have never heard him make any noises. No hiss, meouw, cry for food, cry for attention or just chatty. Absolutely nothing. Even when approaced by an unfamiliar cat he does not hiss or anything when defending himself. The mouth opens but nothing comes out. No growl.
Short of me pulling his tail in desperation to test if he has vocal cords I can' t get anything out him. I have to put my ear right up against him yo feel slight vibrations when I think he might be purring.
Could this be normal or is there something wrong with him?
My other two cats talk and talk away so maybe he just figures they speak enough for all them :)

Dear Taryn

I do not suspect there is something wrong with him if he has not made a sound in 1.5 years.
