Funny, just the last few weks there seem to have been more than the usual number of messages about "falling out of love". OK, long-distance relationships are ALWAYS difficult, and it is hard to maintain a loving relationship when you are usually far apart and not able to be together. If you were in the same town, you could see a couples counsellor together, but this is probably not practical for you.
Have you discussed this with him ? Maybe he feels the same way, or maybe there are ways to improve things between you. Talk about it when next you are together ( and try to arrange this soon).

Bottom line is " long distance relationships do not work."
If you are sure you want to pull out of the relationship, simply write him a message explaining fully how you feel about the situation. What your needs are etc.
He probably feels the same but also do not know how to handle this. Maybe stay friends and you never know whatthe future holds for you.
