Labrador goes bananas in the car

Hi. We have both a 4yo Lab and 4yo Jack Russel. Both bitches. The problem is that whenever we take them anywhere in the car the Lab gets overly excited and does not stop barking. Does any one have any suggestions as to how we can calm her down as we are taking them on holiday with us down to the Eastern Cape and are not too keen on the drugs route.

Dear CY

Natural way: DAP spray in the car, as well as nutricalm (very natural calming drug), classical music.

Drugs: (Best way) 25-50mg Valoid, even Valium if needs be.

you can also get a citronella spray collar and try and traing her a bit before the trip - if she barks she gets a spray of citronella, which will distract her - hopefull long enough for you to reward good behaviour of non-barking.

Sometimes the ' drugs route'  is the kindest for the dog - if they are stressed, it' s no fun for them being in the car for ages.

But, the rescue remedy may work too.

Try rescue remedy for long trips. I have 2 labbies and a Jack Russel and it works well.
