Het ''n 10j oue lab wat mal is oor stap. Gaan stap ten minste 4 keer per week, laat hom los hardloop op skool rugby velde. Hy sprint dan op sy eie om twee rugbyvelde, kom agter dat hy deesdae styf is na die hardloop en ook volgende dag, maar dit verhoed hom nie om weer te hardloop nie. Is daar iets wat ek vir hom kan gee vir die pyn?

Daar is ''n paar voedingssuplemente wat die aftakeling van sy gewrigte enigsins sal vertraag - dis omtrent dieselfde as artritis-supplemente vir mense, soos bv Arthroguard. Die hoofbestanddele moet wees glucosamine en chondroitin. Omega-3 olie kapsules is ook aan te beveel.

Om pyn te bestry kan jy by jou veearts vra vir ''n anti-inflammatory soos Rimadyl, of jy kan vir die hond paracetamol gee - bv Panado - vir ''n lab-grootte hond kan hy tot twee keer op ''n dag ''n 500-mg Panado kry. Die enigste probleem daarmee is dat langdurige gebruik nie aan te beveel is nie, dus gee dit net vir hom as dit lyk of hy dit nodig het.

Op die lang termyn gaan dit ''n keuse wees - die kwaliteit van die hond se lewe, en die plesier wat hy kry uit aktiwiteit - teenoor sy gesondheid. Dit mag dalk ''n moeilike keuse word...
