Dear Anon-D
L-carnitine may assist with weightloss, but it is actually a supplement that improves fatty acid transport in the body so it improves athletic performance. L-carnitine should, however, not be used by patients on thyroid hormone replacement therapy (e.g. patients with low thyroid function) because it antagonises the effect of the thyroid hormones and can thus cause weight gain.
