Hallo Karin
Swollen knees are usually caused by joint inflammation - can be arthritis, gout, fluid on the knee due to bursitis, an injury, ligament tears or injuries, degenerative joint disease. Please ask your doctor to send you to an orthopedic specialist for a second opinion if he can't find the cause.
