Kidney failure

My 17 year old Maltese has been diagnosed with kidney failure. She had been drinking large amounts of water and weeing all over the house. This has now stopped. She is on fortekor 1/2 a day and the Hills tinned food - 1/3 a tin twice a day. She was on Golden Years pellets. By her behaviour, I think she may still be hungry. Can I mix a bit of brown rice with the tinned food or would the Hills pellets mixed with the tinned food help?
