itchy cat

My cat has had a skin allergy for quite some time and has been for regular cortozone injection. The vet recommeded i give him Efazol on his food. i' m not keen as i see Efazol is intended for dogs only. Can i give this to my cat? Why would the manufacturer not say dogs and cats on the packaging if that is the case?
