Issue with driving

Hi,

I have an issue with driving myself. Perhaps I lack confidence, but I cannot bring myself to get into my car and just drive on the open road. the few times that a friend has sat next to me and I drove I didn''t do too badly. Worry about other drivers on the road and about making mistakes that will be very bad. Problem I also have is that I don''t have a problem taking a taxi (even though taxi drivers drive so badly in general).
Also, I am spoilt in the sense that my dad will take me almost anywhere I want to be. how can I tell him in a nice way to let me drive myself?
what can I do to overcome this fear? Please help, as it is limiting what I am doing with my life.

regards,
J

I notice that you're not bothered by riding in a taxi however badly HE drives, but that you fear doing the bad driving yourself. As Alison says, practice in quiet areas top improve your confidence in your technical skills ; and if the anxiety is really severe, se a psychologist for some brief CBT ( Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy ) to get rid of the nervousness and increase your self-confidence

You''ve got your drivers license right? What a milestone at that alone.

I know how you feel. I actually prefer driving by myself than having someone else in the car with me. Actually it is fine if I just drive with my bf or my sister but I don''t want to drive with my parents. Probably because they can be backseat drivers and drive me up the wall a bit.

Good luck. It''s a terrible fear. I used to be just like that.
