Q. is this adhd adult

my son is 26 dropped out of matric in the last quarter..has not had a relationship with anyone yet.. lives on his own...has a job ihas a low paying job in a security company..says that he cant seem to break through a dark cloud in front of him...he went to a school for learning disabilities as he was very disruptive in mainsteam school in a large class..he was diagnosed with adhd put on ritalin for a year or two had occupational therapy as achild...is on no meds today

how do i help him today to break through what i see as barriers ?is this still adhd or was he diagnosed incorrectly?

Although it is unwise to make a diagnosis on a forum, what you describe may be depression which often co-exists with ADHD in adults.

I would suggest taking your son to a psychologist to determine whether further investigation or treatment is advisable to assist your son to develop further in his work and personal life.

Well as his parent you know your child better than anybody at this stage. Do some research into what I suggested if you think you are going in the right direction in so far as you think there is a good possibility that he has Autism and or Aspergers you can find some online tests that you can do as his parent and you can also ask him to do the tests - then if you need to contact Autism South Africa for a specialist near you. many thanks for your reply...i will follow up ..as he is 26 going on 27 i am not too sure how to handle this ie do i suggest he sees a psycologist or a gp or do i seek council first?

I suggest you start doing some research into " high functioning autism" or Aspergers Syndrome from what you say this could be what is going on with your son...
