Dear Ann
Insulin resistance is very much driven by increasing weight. The best option to improve insulin resistance is therefore to lose weight by modifying diet and exercise. With regards to diet, there are a few options and these include a low fat diet, low carb(difficult to do long term) diet or Mediterranean diet. This would address the quality issue, but to help further to lose weight, you need to lower the quantity as well. The diet with a slightly better edge in terms of insulin resistance would be the Mediterranean diet. Essentially this would mean more monounsaturated fats which you could get in your diet by eating 5-7 almond nuts a day and adding olive oil where possible.
