Incaffelitis

My niece was diagnosed with this 5 days ago. How long will she be infectious? My 5 year old son wants to visit her, but we''re still keeping them apart.

I don''t think encephalitis is contagious, it is swelling of the brain and you usually get it after flu or another viral illness.

I had it as a child and I don''t remember anyone being kept away from me, though I did miss school for a number of weeks and I can remember how awful the headache was and the horror of the lumbar puncture.
