inactive tablets in Yasmin

Is it in some way unhealthy for your body not to take the inactive tablets, and in doing so avoiding a period? For how many cycles can I safely do this if I am on Yasmin? Is it necessary to have a period every month if on the pill?

You can skip periods occasionally but if you do this too often, your body gets continuous oestrogen, the effects of which are not known.

Best wishes
