Our expert says:
To build muscle, the most important factor is doing the right type of exercise, so I trust that you have joined a good gym and that the instructor has worked out a proper programme for you (usually working with weights helps to build muscles more actively than doing cardio workouts). Then you also need time - muscles are not built in a few weeks, so give your body enough time to grow those muscles. To read more about diets for building muscles, click on 'Diet' and then on 'DietDoc's articles' and read articles 12, 13, 14, 46, and 47, you will obtain a lot of information regarding dietary intake of sportsmen. You can also click on 'Fitness' at the top of this page and then on 'Nutrition' and read the articles on 'Diets for Sportsmen and women'. If you find that you require a specific diet to be worked out for your body building programme, then it may be a good idea to consult a clinical dietitian (visit the Association for Dietetics in SA Website at: www.adsa.org.za and click on "Find a Dietitian" to find a dietitian in your area), who will work out a specific diet prescription for you.
Good luck with building those muscles
