Hypertension Medication

My doctor changed my hypertension meds from Accuretic 20/12.5 to Zaneril 10/10.

My BP is an average of 150/90. I noticed that the Zaneril isn' t as strong as the Accuretic, but the ingredients differ:

Accuretic: hydrochloride equivalent to 20mg quinapril and 12.5mg hydrochloroyhiazide.

Zaneril: 10mg of lercanidipine hydrochloride and 10mg of enalapril maleatee.

Will this new drug be more effective?

Hi Kevin
You can't compare the two drugs' dosages as they are totally different classes of drugs. The Zaneril may be more effective than the Accuretic - but it is dependent on how a patient react to certain kinds of antihypertensive drugs.

My mother is a diabetic on glucophage 500mg bd.
She is also hypertensive and has been on fortzaar for the past 4 months after her doctor changed the pharmapress co which she was taking for more than 4 years.
Her bp readings range from 176/98-130/90.
She is also scheduled to go for a knee replacement in 1 week.
Her doctor has now recommended that she take the zaneril 20mg.

What is your advice?
