HTP5 for memory?

Over the past few years my memory seems to have got bad. I have been told that there is a medication called HTP 5 that increases serotonin levels which helps improves your memory. Is this true? If not, what medication do you recommend to improve memory?

Thanks

Hallo Des
Memory loss can be caused by various factors: wrong diet, underlying depression, aging, certain medications, alcohol abuse, chronic stress. One should rather try an identify the cause and then treat this accordingly. 5HTP supplements can help for depression but should not be used with antidepressants and can cause headaches. Tryptophan (the amino acid is plentiful in the following foods : chocolate, oats, dried dates, milk, yogurt, cottage cheese, red meat, eggs, fish, poultry, sesame, chickpeas, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, spirulina, and peanuts. (who said chocolate wasn't good for you :-)
5-HTP is a breakdown product of tryptophan and is usually converted to serotonin before it can reach the brain, elevating blood serotonin levels greatly, it may cause diarrhea and heart problems, while only slightly increasing brain serotonin.
