how to determine sex of cats

I have ferrel cats at the office and decided to have the female cats caught and sterilised. There are 4 young cats and I cannot afford to have them sterilised all at once. The SPCA told me that if a cat has more than two colours they are female. Can this be true.

Dear Michelle

Cat with 3 coulours are definately female, the rest you will have to look for testicles or not!
