Hello , HIV is transmitted only if one person is infected. So you want to know both your status and status of the other person. For example if your partner is infected/positive and you have an open sore, this gives blood and semen opportunity to enter your blood stream via the open sore. You get it?? HIV is an STI so it likes dark wet places to breed- usually genitals or directly into blood via needles. Open sores on hands are low risk situations.

However this is a great opportunity for both of you to get tested. Then you never have to worry as you will know your status. And hopefully, irrespective of your status, you will use condoms.
