Hiv test

Hi doc

My partner was recently held up and as a result of some physical abuse from the assailants hiv testing was done and combivir started. The test was done last week Tuesday morning and we called the gp two days later to find out the results but they said they had nothing yet and would call when they did. We are yet to hear anything. Surely the results should be with the Gp by now? If something was wrong they would call immediately wouldn' t they?

Thank you for visiting health24.com.

There is a window period of 6 months. Therefore, HIV tests will not reveal if the person contracted HIV in the process. HIV tests will have to be done at six weeks, 3 months and at 6 months after the incident.

Your doctor should however, have the results withing two days after the initial test.
