Hip Replacement - Removed Prosthesis but infection still oozing

I posted a few weeks ago concerning my grandmother who is in a state hospital in Durban.

After she was placed on antibiotics, the infection didn''t clear. She then went back into Surgery where they drained the infection. A week later the infection had not got any better and they drained it a second time. Still it did not improve and they then removed the prosthesis a week ago. We were told that a spacer and been implanted. She has been on antibiotics this entire time. We are concerned because even though the prosthesis was removed a week ago, it is still oozing out of the wound quite badly. Is it normal for it to still be seeping through after a week? Thank You.

It is not normal, it may indicate that the infection is still not under control. The treatment of removing the prosthesis and inserting a spacer is the accepted procedure and one hopes that they will get the infection controlled soon.
