Dear Hannatjie
You can try the DASH Diet to control bp. Click on 'Diet' at the top of this page and then on ' 'Food as medicine' and 'Hypertension' and read about the DASH Diet which was developed in the USA to lower bp. Combine the diet with daily exercise such as going for a walk (check with your dr what type of exercise you are allowed to do) or swimming for 30 min.

Being physically active is one of the most important things you can do to prevent or control high blood pressure. Using less sodium (salt) is key to keeping blood pressure at a healthy level. Rather add flavour by using herbs, spices (with very low salt content), garlic, and onions. 1tsp of red pepper in half a glass of water in the morning worked wonders for me over a period of 4 weeks.
