Hiatus Hernia

Hi doc, I have been diagnosed as having a 3cm Hiatus Hernia,
A lot of people are advising me not to go for the operation to fix it althouh the specialist says I should have it done. What is your oppinion and whatever your answer, can you give me the reason. Can this hernia cause damage to my body over a long period?

Thanks
God bless

Hallo Adele
One would first try to treat with medication and diet. If not controlled by these, an operation may be needed. Chronic burning of the lower esophagus by acid can cause Barrets esophagitis which may lead to cancer in later life.

Even if you operate, it can recur.
