hepatitis

My beloved 15 year old cat passed away this week after two weeks since being diagnosed with hepatitis. The vet said it could have beeen either viral or bacterial. (Blood tests were done to confirm the hepatitis)

She was mainly an indoor cat, venturing into the garden for very short periods, and definitely did not come into contact with any other cates (other than our three year old cat)

How could she have caught / been infected with the hepatitis ?
