Helpless &  Depressed

A close family member is suffering from a deep depression. Constantly sad and emotional, does not go outside, does not want to associate with anyone, dazed and confused, almost helpless to do normal day to day chores. She prefers to stay in a dark house with no TV or radio. She has recently given up working and is about 65 years old. She has a history of depression, but this was treated with Medication. We not sure if she is eating, or taking her medication, as she does not share any information with us. We cannot watch her all day due to work commitments. We are struggling financially, and cannot afford to take her to doctor. What options do we have to help her, as speaking to her and reassuring her is not helping.

Sounds like a serious depression, really needing treatment. Copuld you perhaps arrange for her to see a doc at a psych clinic at your nearest medial school Dept of psychiatry, or nearest major state hospital ? They could re-assess her, in the light of the information you can provide, and can provide her with the treatment she needs - maybe even a short time in hospital to get the effective treatment started properly

best bet, take your family member to the nearest psychiatic hospital.......they can stablize her with medication and monitor her....or they could murder her and she may come back....either way its better than leaving her alone at home :-)
