Heavy periods

Hi there!

I just need to know what can the possible reasons be for my periods being up to 16 days long? I had a sterilasation with the birth of my child five years ago and for the last year my period is more than two weeks. I visit my gynae every 6 months and he said it does sometimes happen when you had a sterilasation. He suggest I have an hystorectomy. Is there any other suggestions?

It may be hormonal if there is no other problem with the uterus. An alternative would be the Mirena.
