Dear Worried Scared,

Well done on facing your problems and fears head-on!! You have already won half the battle, not only by doing this, but also because now you know what the problem is, and can start dealing with it. This puts you in control of your health – good for you.

Bilocor is an excellent medication. It is beta-blocker, but a very special kind, specifically designed to target heart and blood vessels. It will lower your BP, and slow your pulse to acceptable levels – it may not work dramatically on the very first day, but will kick in quickly after that. The dosage varies, but most people start at 5mg daily. I presume that your doctor will first monitor your response at your starting dosage. The dosage can go up to 20mg per day if necessary. Side effects are few,but if you do notice any odd symptoms, please inform your doctor at once. As an added bonus, it will also help to reduce your anxiety somewhat.

Now, the next thing you can tackle is the smoking. Really, this is slow suicide. You strike me as being an intelligent and motivated person, so once your BP is nicely under control, do your health the biggest favour possible, and try to stop smoking.

Good luck.
