grey spot in middle of eye

Miniature Dobermann, 3 years old, has a grey spot in centre of both eyes. Vet says vary rare condition and not treatable - bothers dog, who sometimes ' rubs'  eyes with paws so as to remove spots.

is it like a corneal dystrophy? My dog has it but I found a change in diet worked wonders (decrease in fats in the diet)
