glucose tolerance test

I had a GTT and my fasting level was 5.3 and after two hours it was nine what does this mean?

Normal: fasting <5.5 mmol/L ; 2 hour <7.8 mmol/L
Impaired glucose tolerance: fasting <5.5 mmol/L; 2 hour 7.8-11.0 mmol/L
Impaired fasting glycaemia: fasting 5.5-6.9 mmol/L; 2 hour <7.8 mmol/L
Diabetes mellitus: fasting >7.0 mmol/L; 2 hour >11.1 mmol/L

It means that you have impaired glucose tolerance - you may have insulin resistance (usually this can be treated with diet and exercise alone) . Your doctor may want to do fasting insulin test to confirm the diagnosis
