Floaters

Hi Doc

My friend has floaters in the eye according to her GP. What do they do and are they dangerous? Does one need to see an opthalmic surgeon?

Also, regarding a cough, i have a very dry persistent cough (it isn''t deep though). Would you say i would need to see a doc and get an anti-biotic for it?

Thanks in advance
G

Hallo Gem
Floaters can be normal if it disappears after a few seconds but the sudden onset of persistent floaters, sometimes accompanied by lightning-like flashes of light, can signal something serious. This can be a sign that the retina is tearing which can cause blindness. Sudden and persistent floaters should be checked by an eye specialist.
