Fingers going dead

Morning
I would like to find out why my fingers go dead or feel dead. If i use my hand in a certain way my ring fingers and pinckies go dead. I spoke to my doctor and he indicated that he think it is some " parcal"  issue, is it true?

Can it be rectified, and if i go for an operation how long will i be off sick and not be able to do my usual chores?

Thanx

Hallo Joe
You may have a carpal tunnel syndrome (http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/carpal_tunnel/detail_carpal_tunnel.htm) although with the symptoms in the ring and small fingers, it is probably the ulnar nerve pinching in the elbow or at the wrist (http://orthoinfo.aaos.org/topic.cfm?topic=a00069)
Depending on what the problem is, an operation may be needed and this can take 2-3 weeks to heal.
