Fever blisters and Pregnancy

Hi Doc,

I am between 5 and 6 weeks pregnant (according to blood tests). It is my first pregnancy so I might be a little paranoid. I have a fever blister/cold sore on the outside of my lower lip. Can this virus be dangerous to the fetus? Should I get to my doctor asap?
Thanks for the advice.

It is genital herpes that can cause problems for the baby. Cold sores on your lips are usually from a different strain of the virus.
