Eye Infections/Allergy

I have a problem with my 3 year old, she continually has mukky eyes, and often wakes up with them stuck together. We have had this problem since she was a baby. I took her to the doctor and he said it was allergies? But i am really concerned about this now as i am worried about giving her anti histamines all the time and i''m worried about damage to her eyes! I''m also not sure now if i should take her back to a doctor, or optometrist or an allergy specialist?

Hallo ChaziB
Allergies cause red itchy eyes but won't cause eyes with a discharge. This is usually caused by a bacterial infection. It may help to use an antibiotic eye salve. Get another opinion from another GP.
