External hearing aids

I am hearing challenged and wear two hearing aids. They are external hearing aids, with a moulding shaped to fit my ears.
Wearing them nearly 24/7 causes my ears to be aggravated by the acrylic plugs and the ear canals itch terribly. I tend to get discharges from the ears quite frequently too. When I have consulted my GP, she has prescribed antibiotic eardrops. I fear that using earbuds so frequently is going to damage my ears even further.
