Excessive nose bleeds

Our office cleaner has had 2 major nose bleeds. Blood clots about 10cm long and thick coming from her nose and mouth. She says she feels like her veins are tight. She has a stiff neck and pain in her right arm.

She went to the clinic yesterday and was told it is stress. I was not satisfied with that diagnosis. She bled for almost an hour at work and again that evening.

Hi Vanessa

The first thing would be for her to consult with an ENT to determine where the blood is coming from i.e. high up in the nasal canal or more lower down. Nose bleeds result from a 'burst' blood vessel and the severity of the bleed will be determined by the size of the vessel.

Small vessels can be easily cauterized.

Obviously any thing that irritates the vessel (raised blood pressure, nasal allergies, dry conditions etc.) can be the initiating factor, but stress alone is rarely the cause.
