A penis pump is a vacuum device that essentially draws blood into the penis by creating a vacuum in a tube-like device. The blood is held there by putting an appriately sized constriction ring (provided with the vacuum pump) around the base of the penis to trap the blood in the penis for the time that you want it to be erect. you would need to make sure that you don't try to pump the penis too hard, use too tight a ring, or keep the blood trapped there for too long as you can cause some damage to the tissue of the penis. Also bear in mind that the penis may be hard but won't stand up on it's own due to the ring at the base. You will therefore have to manually direct your penis during penetration.

To answer your question, yes it can work but it less spontaneous and more difficult than the pills. Just do make sure that you are going for regular health check ups to make sure that your
ED is not part of a more sinister disease process.
