Dear M Erasmus
Enlarged kidneys can be due to cysts/growths, diabetes, autoimmune diseases or a blockage in the urine tract causing urine reflux. Your doctor will probably decide whether referral to a specialist is needed or if he/she wants to first do other tests too.
