Eltroxin

Is there any other medication for Hypothyroid in South Africa other than Eltroxin.
Is there a more natural medication?

Thanx

Hi Eve

Eltroxin is very similar to a hormone secreted within the body and some may argue that is already is a very-close-to-natural product (although it is synthetically manufactured).

There are other options such as Diotroxin and Euthyrox, but your doctor will have to change your prescription in order for you to get these.

There are multiple natural thyroid formulations on the market, but its efficacy is an area of doubt.

I have seen a lot of complaint about Eltroxin in New Zealand and Oz because GSK changed the formulation and a lot of people are now suffering side effects.

Do you know if this happened in SA as well? People who have taken Eltroxin for more than 20 yrs now sit with unexplained weight gain, itchy skin, hear palpitations, etc!

Can you stop taking it if you went from under active to over active until you see an endocrinologist?
