Our expert says:
The medication that you may be referring to is called an SSRI usually used as an anti-depressant but has been found to work to delay ejaculation. The medication which can be taken an hour before intercourse is called Dapoxetine but would be used off-label in that it has not been approved specifically for premature ejaculation in South Africa eventhough approval has been given for its use in 10 other countries around the world. Another SSRI, Paroxetine, also used 'off label' has been shown to delay ejaculation but is most effective when used as a daily dose. The problem with using these medications is that the premature ejaculation recurs once medication is stopped. Other options may be to try a local aneasthetic (lidocaine) gel or spray. It may be necessary to use a condom to prevent vaginal numbing.
