Dear Daleen

Your son should see an ENT to assess the need for intervention. The ear should be cleaned and treated. It seems as though the GP is treating an acute middle ear infection. If the pain has not improved, he requires an examination by an ENT surgeon as a matter of urgency. Generally the eardrum should mend if the treatment is appropriate.
