Our expert says:
Not at all. Jaundice is caused by the (normal) breakdown of red blood cells and when the baby's liver is still a bit ineffective in the beginning, it can't remove all the pigment and then baby gets jaundiced. It usually clears up within a week. A baby who has incompatible blood group to the mother or bleeds internally with birth can develop a more prolonged and serious jaundice
