Dog humping newly spayed female

Our male dog is constantly trying to mate with our female dog, who was spayed only three days ago. She doesn' t seem to mind, but we' re concerned that she might get hurt. It is not possible to keep them apart all the time. Is there anything else we can do, or should we just let them sort it out between them?

Dear Niki

Keep them seperate for at least 2 weeks till the wounds and stiches have healed. You can try to spray 'Footsack' on the female after the 2 weeks to stop the behaviour. Neuter the male if not done already.

Thanks for the advice. We sprayed " Keep Away"  on her back, and that seems to help. I' m still wondering, though, what made her so attractive all of a sudden? (We suspect that she had been about to get on heat when we had her spayed.)

Hi there   I don' t know what "  Footsack"  contains but in the old days we used to use citronella oil spray. We would spray all around her genital area + all the way down her back legs. Be careful because, although it' s highly unlikely, if he does manage to get it right to get his penis into her he will hurt her badly because with her not being on heat she will be dry inside. Take care + as was said, have him neutered if necessary.
