Dog biting his own legs

Good day.

What can be the problem if a fully grown FoxTerrier, bites it' s own leg. It is a male dog. This dog always have open wounds on his front legs as it keep on biting himself.
What can be the course of this, and please advise what we can do about it?

Thank you
Jan

Dear Jan

My first guess would be Sarcoptic mange. Treat weekly for 4-6 weeks with Ectodex or Amitix.

Here' s another option: a lick granuloma. Look it up on google. If that' s what it is, go, talk to your vet, and get it sorted SOON - it' s a neurotic habit and the longer you wait, the harder it is to cure.
