Hi there. If a person (Mary) reads someone (John) else''s emails on mweb by guessing John''s password during working hours can Mary be dismissed? The emails read were of a personal nature and not work related. Mary is worried that John will report her to her Company and Marys Company will fire her. Mary is not sure if John will get enough proof to proove she was reading his e-mails. Hope Im making sense. Many thanks

Unless the emails were concerning work their wont be any case for a grievance to be filed. Does your company have stipulated rules and regulations regarding IT and Emails?

In general work emails are to be used for work puposes only. Also most companys have clear-cut rules regarding privacy of persons emails and pc profiles. For instance you could be punished for not logging off from a computer after finishing on it and so leave valuable info available for anyone to view. This same would aply towards accessing someone else''s profile or emails.

The companys security code would probably cover this.It is usually a dismisable act to gain acess to and use anyone elses password.In my opinion it is ethically and morally wrong to acess another persons personal mail.

Any work mail is not suppose to be used for personal mails, weather it be mary or the boss who read it, it is not suppose have personal info. It is not right, but it''s work. If now it was a personal mail, it is btw John an Mary, nothing to do with work. The scenario changes if it was the bosses mail, there could have been confidential info.

I have no problem being judged by anyone who condones or supports Marys actions.I cannot imagine any possible historical information which would defend this action in working hours against a fellow worker.

if mary has enough time during working hours to hack into johns emails and read his personal mails the company may be better off without mary!!!!!!!!!
