difficult to pass a stool

Hi Doc
i have been suffering for a while now with passing a stool. ihave just returned from a 2 week holiday in Thailand and found my stools became much easier to pass. i would love to have that permanantly but i need to know what i can do. i eat all Bran every day and prunes every night. this does not help. please help.

You could try a safe stool softner like Lactulose each night. Ensure that you drink enough fluids (8 glasses per day) Stress and anxiety can cause constipation, so try to get some exercise daily to relieve stress.

You are doing right by eating bran. Just be careful not to overdo the roughage, as that too can cause a blockage.

Try eating water-soluble fibre that you can get in the form of Pysillium husks or Fibrogel.
