diet induced insomnia

When l''m dieting, l suffer from insomnia and ''ve this unexplanable energy but as soon as l get off the diet l sleep like a baby and even have a hard time getting up in the morning. Is this normal?

You don't mention if you take anything to promote weightloss such as appetite suppressants or over-the-counter slimming pills? If you do, then compounds in these products cause insomnia as a side-effect. If you don't take any slimming pills then it is possible that you can't sleep because of hunger? Otherwise it could just be that you are stressed when you diet to lose weight.
Check that you are not using too few kJ and/or carbs, and try having a glass of warm low-fat milk before going to bed. The tryptophan, an amino acid, in the milk should help you to fall asleep.
