Diet

Hi Doc
I have lost so much weight since January and am now woried since its winter time. I have not been drinking tea or coffee lately and now that is cold i have a urge to do so. Am willing to have 3 cups of tea or coffee a day with one sugar but no milk, will this have bad results at the end of winter and with food i dont have a problem, am willing to stay on Cabbage, cup-a-soup,boiled vegetables, boiled eggs(not everyday) and ofcourse healthy breakfast and Tuna fish if i feel like having meat. Will this be a good choice till the end of cold days?

Dear Lucy
Congratulations on losing a lot of weight since January. There is no harm in drinking tea and moderate amounts of coffee. You can add fat-free milk to your 3-cups of hot beverage because the diet you describe is lacking in calcium and it would be a pity if you developed brittle bones, now that you are losing weight. Try adding the fat-free milk and 1-2 cups of fat-free yoghurt to your diet to boost you calcium intake. Diets rich in calcium promote weightloss. If you do have 1 t of sugar per cup of tea or coffee, this adds 81 kJ per teaspoon, thus 243 kJ per 3 cups, which represents 3,9% of your daily energy intake when you are slimming based on a slimming diet for adult women that provides 6300 kJ per day.
